Geraldo Rivera has once again stirred controversy, reminding the public of the reasons behind his departure from Fox News.
The former television host, now more active on social media, took to X on Tuesday night to raise a question that many found out of touch with reality, akin to something one might expect from a more liberal media outlet.
Rivera questioned the necessity of ICE agents wearing masks, asking, "Cops do not wear masks. They deal with the most dangerous elements in society. Why do ICE agents wear masks? What are they hiding?" His inquiry did not end there, as he further elaborated, "Judges dont wear masks. Sheriffs dont wear masks. Marshals dont wear masks. FBI agents dont wear masks. Court officers dont wear masks. Cops dont wear masks. Only ICE agents."
According to Western Journal, Rivera's comments quickly attracted criticism. One user highlighted a New York Times headline, "10 Charged With Attempted Murder in Officer Shooting at ICE Detention Center," suggesting that the need for anonymity is a matter of safety. Another user bluntly stated, "People are trying to kill them," underscoring the real threats ICE agents face.
Fox News, Rivera's former network, reported on recent attacks targeting ICE agents, including an incident where ten individuals were charged following a shooting at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, which resulted in injuries to a police officer. The dangers confronting these agents are escalating, with the Department of Homeland Security noting a staggering 500 percent increase in assaults against ICE personnel. The contentious political climate surrounding immigration has only intensified these threats, placing agents in constant peril.
While Rivera questions from the comfort of his home, ICE agents are on the front lines, enforcing immigration laws amidst growing hostility. The left's antagonism towards ICE has only exacerbated these threats, with Democrats likening agents to Nazis and concentration camp guards, potentially exposing them and their families to further risks.
Beyond physical threats, ICE agents also contend with doxxing, where activists reveal their personal information online, aiming to intimidate them into silence. Such actions are far from transparent; they border on terrorism. Rivera's apparent disregard for the safety of ICE agents is not just embarrassing; it is perilous.
Fortunately, the Department of Homeland Security remains vigilant in safeguarding these agents, ensuring that those enforcing the nation's laws are protected.
