In a recent episode of her SiriusXM show, Megyn Kelly, a seasoned journalist, forecasted a potential shakeup in the Trump administration.
She suggested that Attorney General Pam Bondi's tenure might be on the brink of termination, following a wave of public criticism over the Department of Justice's (DOJ) latest report on the infamous Jeffrey Epstein case.
According to the Daily Caller, the DOJ and FBI recently published a succinct two-page memo, as reported by Axios on Sunday, which concluded that Epstein, a convicted sex offender, committed suicide in 2019, leaving no trace of a "client list."
The memo has sparked a flurry of criticism from Republican circles, leading to a discussion on Kelly's show about whether Bondi's previous media statements are fanning the flames of this backlash.
Kelly questioned the integrity of Bondi's actions, stating, "What kind of an attorney general would pretend shes giving new information to some of the presidents most loyal advocates in the press? You know, buying ink by the barrel." She continued, "So either Pam Bondi knew she was about to embarrass some of his most loyal surrogates out there, and did that willingly, or she didnt take the time to make sure what was in those binders. She was too lazy to actually figure out none of this is new."
Kelly further criticized Bondi's decision to convene a meeting with influential figures, including Kash Patel, the head of the FBI, and the sitting vice president. She concluded, "So shes either lazy and incompetent or she willingly humiliated some of the presidents most loyal supporters. Neither one of those is good. And thats why, Im sorry, but Im going to predict her days are numbered as a member of the Trump administration."
Epstein's arrest and subsequent death in 2019 while in custody at the New York Metropolitan Correctional Center have been subjects of intense scrutiny and speculation. Despite officials ruling his death a suicide, several individuals, including his brother Mark Epstein, have contested this conclusion. "Jeffrey knew a lot of stuff about a lot of people," Mark Epstein told the Miami Herald in 2019.
Following Epstein's demise, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in 2021 and later sentenced in June 2022 to 20 years in prison for her involvement in his criminal activities. Maxwell remains the only individual held accountable for Epstein's trafficking ring.
The secrecy surrounding Epstein's files, given his connections to high-profile individuals, has spurred widespread speculation. During his 2024 campaign, President Donald Trump pledged to release Epstein's files, along with the JFK assassination files. However, the administration faced backlash in February after the first batch of Epstein documents, lacking any significant revelations or a "client list," was handed to conservative influencers.
In March, Bondi claimed that thousands of Epstein-related files had been withheld from the FBI. She told Fox News Sean Hannity that these documents would be released after undergoing redactions, with explanations provided for each one. "Youre looking at these documents going, These arent all the Epstein files. There were flight logs. There were names, victims names, and were going Wheres the rest of the stuff? Thats what the FBI had turned over to us," Bondi said on Fox News. "So a source said Whoa, all this evidence is sitting in the Southern District of New York. So based on that, I gave them the deadline, Friday at 8, a truckload of evidence arrived.
The future of Bondi's position within the Trump administration remains uncertain, as public criticism mounts over the handling of the Epstein case. The administration's commitment to transparency, as promised during the 2024 campaign, is now under the microscope, with the Epstein files at the center of this controversy.
