Twitter CEO Elon Musk acted swiftly on Tuesday, suspending an account sharing a custom "pedophile flag" in honor of Alice Day, an unofficial annual "pedophile pride day" celebrated on April 25.
"Not tolerated on this platform," Musk stated in response to a tweet that praised Twitter for the account suspension.
The account, @zeebdemon, posted images of the customized flag they claimed to have created nearly a year ago, sharing it on the social media platform on Tuesday. "Happy Alice Day, to those who celebrate," the user wrote. "I figured, why not use today to unveil the YAP (Youth Attracted People) pride flag I designed almost a year ago?"
In a series of tweets, @zeebdemon described the custom flag, consisting of diagonal stripes in shades of blue, pink, yellow, and white. The post made at 2:52 am on Tuesday was no longer visible after the account was suspended later in the evening.
"Elon Musk suspended the person who made a pedophilia flag. Well done, Elon," tweeted Dr. Anastasia Maria Loupis in a post that has since gone viral. Musk replied, "Not tolerated on this platform."
Social media users praised Musk's decisive action. "Thank you. I was temporarily suspended by old Twitter for simply saying that child raping pedophiles should face the death penalty after being proven guilty. Big change under your ownership. Now pedophiles are no longer protected by Twitter! Keep it up," tweeted former congressional candidate and filmmaker Robby Starbuck.
Another user expressed gratitude for Musk's efforts to protect children from sexual predators.
Some users criticized the platform's previous administration, stating that former executives Parag Agarwal and Vijaya Gadde would have likely celebrated the controversial post. The former Twitter executives faced considerable backlash for allowing child pornography and abusive content to circulate without repercussions.
After purchasing Twitter for $44 billion in August 2022, Musk prioritized combatting child pornography as one of his primary objectives for the social media platform.
