In the 2021 New Jersey gubernatorial race, Republican Jack Ciattarelli made a surprisingly strong showing, nearly clinching victory.
As he mounts another campaign this year, conservative support for Ciattarelli is intensifying. Republican activist Scott Presler is actively working in the state to bolster Republican voter registration efforts.
According to Gateway Pundit, recent polling suggests that Ciattarelli's path to victory may hinge on his stance regarding transgender issues. A survey commissioned by the conservative American Principles Project reveals that a significant majority of New Jersey voters, 68%, oppose allowing biological males who identify as transgender to compete in girls' sports, with only 22% in favor.
Additionally, over 70% of residents disapprove of taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries for minors, while a mere 20% support such funding. The poll, conducted by Cygnal, also indicates that 60% of voters are against teaching sexual orientation and transgender ideology in public elementary schools, compared to 31% who support it.
Ciattarelli is set to challenge Democratic nominee Rep. Mikie Sherrill, who has publicly endorsed transgender rights. The two are competing to succeed Democratic Governor Phil Murphy, who is ineligible for re-election due to term limits. Initially, the poll shows Sherrill leading Ciattarelli 50% to 43%, with 7% of voters undecided. However, when voters are informed of Sherrill's stance on transgender rights, the dynamics could shift.
The poll highlights a potential vulnerability for Democrats on this issue. Republicans are encouraged to capitalize on this opportunity strategically. As the race unfolds, Ciattarelli's position on these matters may prove pivotal in swaying undecided voters and securing a Republican victory in New Jersey.
