Dominique Alexander, representing the family of Karmelo Anthony, has framed the teenager's murder trial for the death of Austin Metcalf as a struggle against "white supremacy.
".
Alexander, who leads the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), expressed this sentiment in a statement on X following Anthony's indictment.
According to Breitbart, Alexander emphasized the sensitive nature of the case, stating, "This case involves multiple minors and sensitive details that I cannot and will not speak about publicly." He further asserted his commitment to ensuring the trial is not swayed by public opinion.
Addressing the backlash faced by Anthony and his family, Alexander declared, "To the racists, the bigots, and those filled with hate whove targeted Karmelo, his family, and even myself, you do not intimidate us. We are not backing down." He portrayed the case as emblematic of the broader challenges faced by Black Americans, noting, "This case is yet another example of what it means to be Black in America, where even our self-defense is questioned, scrutinized, and politicized." Alexander urged the public to "[s]tand with us in the fight against white supremacy."
In contrast, Mike Howard, Anthony's attorney, argued that the case should not be viewed through a racial lens. "The factual and legal issues involved in this case are not about race," Howard explained to Fox News.
He acknowledged the racial dynamics involved, given the races of the individuals, but maintained, "To be very clear, we dont see this as a case about race. The law applies to every person, regardless of their race, equally." Howard expressed confidence in the impartiality of the legal process, stating, "We have faith in the people of Collin County to apply the law blindly."
