In a rare moment of levity for law enforcement, two agencies in Florida seized the opportunity to revel in the arrest of a suspect who had boasted on social media about his supposed elusiveness.
Aaron Johnson, who had been taunting the authorities online, was apprehended on Tuesday by the Lakeland Police Department and subsequently detained at the Polk County Jail. His arrest follows a series of felony charges, including the violation of pretrial release conditions.
As reported by Western Journal, Johnson's antics began when he decided to mock Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd during the sheriff's annual fishing event. Johnson took to social media, posting, Yall too busy fishing, thats why yall didnt catch me when I left my grandmas house today! Shouldve waited a bit longer. Yall accepted da challenge right? #GradyCantFindMe #ComeAgainGrady.
The Polk County Sheriffs Office responded with a dose of sarcasm, Spoken like a real man. Way to take responsibility for your actions. No worries we will find you. Bet.
Johnson's taunts persisted, with another post reading, I done out ran yall several time. #ComeTryAgainGrady, to which the Sheriffs Office replied, Challenge accepted. Johnson continued his bravado, OK! Ill give you and ya crew a head start. Yall couldnt catch me on foot or in da car last time. Maybe you gonna need that horse or ya helicopter! #levelup #ImGoneGrady.
Despite his confidence, Johnson's luck ran out when Lakeland police officers, unbeknownst to him, were on his trail. The Lakeland Police Department shared on Facebook, What Aaron didnt know is that we got their backs!
They further elaborated, When Aaron Johnson jumped on Facebook and challenged the Polk County Sheriffs Office, bragging he couldnt be caught despite having multiple felony warrants, our LPD officers said, Challenge accepted.
The post continued, Today, that little game ended. Our officers and detectives tracked him down and personally delivered him to the Deputies at the Polk County Jail. Nice try, Aaron. Maybe next time but probably not. The Polk County deputies also chimed in with a final jab, You done messed up A-aron! You forgot all the agencies here in Polk work togetherthanks LakelandPD for the find.
This incident underscores the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies and serves as a reminder that social media bravado can have real-world consequences.
