In a recent interview, Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) staunchly defended President Joe Biden's cognitive abilities, while simultaneously suggesting that supporters of President Donald Trump are the ones suffering from mental health issues.
According to RedState, the Texas lawmaker's comments were made during a conversation with Katie Couric, a journalist whose reputation has seen better days. Couric pointed out that even as other Democrats began to question Biden's capacity to lead the nation, Crockett remained unwavering in her support.
When asked if she had any regrets about her steadfast loyalty, Crockett responded, "Not a single one. I still stand by the decision to stand with President Joe Biden and then ultimately standing with Vice President Kamala Harris."
Crockett justified her inability to detect any cognitive decline in Biden by stating she did not have close access to him. However, critics argue that even casual observers of television or social media could easily spot signs of Biden's deteriorating mental acuity. "I never saw anything in Joe Biden that made me wonder whatsoever," Crockett insisted, comparing Biden to her grandmother who became less "polished" in her later years. She went on to say she would "take a broken ... Joe Biden over Donald Trump any given day."
Crockett's defense of Biden's cognitive state was not limited to the President. She also lauded Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming she was "light years" ahead of Trump in terms of qualifications. "When you think about it, Kamala Harris, light years ahead of Donald Trump as it relates to qualifications, as it relates to her overall resume," Crockett claimed. "You had a younger, qualified, non-felon candidate, and somehow the people still chose the old white man."
Critics have argued that Crockett's comments about Harris are not only racially charged, suggesting that being white is a disadvantage in holding office, but also unfounded. They point out that Harris's qualifications are questionable at best, with some even suggesting she wouldn't be fit to manage a local fast-food restaurant.
In a twist of irony, while Crockett maintains that Biden and Harris are of sound mind and superior qualifications, she suggests that it's the supporters of Trump who are mentally ill. She told Couric that Trump's mass repatriation efforts and his military parade were "sick," and that "anybody that supports it is also sick." She went on to say, "We've got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone, no matter how you affiliate yourself, should be against Trump. Period. This is not partisan for me."
Crockett's comments have drawn criticism from conservatives, who argue that her accusations of mental illness among Trump supporters are not only unfounded but also indicative of a broader issue within liberal politics. They suggest that it is the liberal ideology, with its tendency to label dissenting opinions as mental disorders, that is the true mental health crisis in the country.
While Crockett remains steadfast in her support for Biden and Harris, her comments have sparked a broader conversation about the state of American politics and the divisive rhetoric that continues to polarize the nation.
