This Saturday, the nation's capital will be awash with patriotic fervor as it hosts a grand parade to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.
S. Army.
However, the event has not been without its detractors, with some Democratic figures launching scathing attacks on the celebration.
According to RedState, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate and current Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, has been particularly vocal in his criticism. Walz has drawn parallels between the upcoming event in Washington, D.C., and the military parades often seen in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. He even expressed a wish for inclement weather to disrupt the parade, stating, "This may get me in trouble or whatever."
Walz is not alone in his disparagement of the event. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has also voiced her objections, primarily focusing on the cost to taxpayers. In a tweet, she claimed, "Trumps parade will cost taxpayers up to $45 million. For example, with that money, we could expand health care & food assistance for veterans. A taxpayer-paid birthday gift to Trump sounds like government waste to me."
Warren's criticism appears to be twofold. Firstly, she suggests that the parade is a self-serving celebration for President Trump, whose birthday coincidentally falls on the same day. However, this claim is undermined by the fact that planning for the Army's 250th anniversary celebration began at least two years ago, long before Trump's return to office. The addition of military vehicles to the parade in 2025 does not equate to a birthday celebration for the President.
Secondly, Warren's concerns about the cost of the parade seem disingenuous, given the Democrats' track record on spending. The party has been known to allocate substantial funds to support illegal immigrants and foreign aid to countries like Ukraine. Furthermore, their opposition to the Department of Energy's (DOGE) budget cuts, which could save billions, raises questions about their sudden fiscal conservatism.
The question remains whether Warren will support the current DOGE budget cuts bill making its way through Congress. However, given the Democrats' previous stance on such matters, the answer seems predictable.
The Democrats' sudden interest in cost-saving measures, particularly when it comes to honoring the military, raises eyebrows. It also begs the question of how much will be spent to manage the "No Kings" protest, a counter-event organized by the left.
Despite the Democrats' objections, the DOGE has managed to save more than the cost of the parade, even in the face of opposition and attacks from radical leftists. This fact was not lost on the public, with many voicing their criticism on social media platforms.
One user wrote, "You are one of the biggest mouths fighting to stop DOGE and you post this. Thank you for proving what a hypocrite you are." Another asked, "How much did you vote to send to Ukraine? How many billions in USAID was taken from the taxpayer to funnel?"
The controversy surrounding the parade underscores the ongoing political divide in the country. However, as a 26-year retired veteran pointed out, "What is wrong with honoring our Vets. Please, put away the political TDS mode, and honor our Vets. Do not compete with them." It's a sentiment that many would argue should transcend political boundaries.
