Former Vice President Mike Pence has revealed a four-step plan to combat mass shootings and defend Second Amendment rights in the United States.
In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News at the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual gathering, Pence spoke about the need to protect constitutional liberties, including the right to bear arms. He criticized the Biden administration's stance on gun control and outlined his vision for policies that will work to keep American communities safe.
Pence's four-step plan starts with ending the Defund the Police movement. Secondly, he advocates for the presence of armed resource officers in every school in the country. Thirdly, Pence believes that the appeals process for death penalty sentences for convicted mass shooters should be sped up. Finally, he urges the U.S. to reinvest in institutional mental healthcare.
"The American people know that firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens make our communities more safe not less safe," Pence said. "In one situation after another, the American people have seen that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun."
Regarding gun control policies, Pence argued that they have failed wherever implemented. He suggested that the Democrats and the left generally reflexively blame law-abiding gun owners and groups like the NRA whenever a mass shooting occurs. He stated that the American people did not buy into this argument and called for real solutions to address the root causes of the problem.
Pence emphasized the need to support law enforcement, protect children, expedite penalties against those who commit mass shootings, and create institutions where people who need mental health support can be sent instead of being sent to the county lockup or left on the street.
When asked who should provide resources for armed officers in every school, Pence stated that he does not support federal meddling in education. However, he believes that the most prosperous nation in the history of the world should remove cost from this equation and ensure every child in school is protected, regardless of whether they attend a public or private school.
"I think the time has come to give every community in the country the resources necessary to put armed resource officers in every public and private school in the country," Pence said.
Pence's plan aligns with the principles of conservatism, including limited government, individual freedom, and free-market economics. He stressed the importance of protecting constitutional liberties and advocated for policies that would work to keep American communities safe.
"In the wake of the tragedy in the last week in Louisville and a short time ago in Nashville, Tennessee, the Biden Administration just reflexively returns to gun control and gun confiscation but the American people know better," Pence said.
Pence's plan has garnered support from the NRA, which hosted the annual gathering where he spoke. The NRA has been a vocal advocate for Second Amendment rights and has argued against gun control policies.
Pence's vision for the U.S. aligns with the conservative perspective, emphasizing traditional values and individual rights. His four-step plan to combat mass shootings and defend Second Amendment rights underscores the need for policies that will work to keep American communities safe.
"As Biden finds trillions of dollars to spend on every liberal wish list item in Washington DC, I think the time has come to give every community in the country the resources necessary to put armed resource officers in every public and private school in the country," Pence said.
