Two Republicans Break Ranks In NC And Ditch Constitutional Carry!

In North Carolina, a legislative battle is unfolding as two Republican state Representatives, Ted Davis and Bill Brisson, have taken a stand against Senate Bill 50.

This proposed legislation aims to make North Carolina the 30th state to adopt constitutional carry, a move that would allow citizens to carry firearms without a permit. Despite the bill's passage in the North Carolina Senate on June 3, 2025, with a 26 to 18 vote, its journey through the House faces hurdles.

According to Breitbart, the bill advanced from the House Rules committee on June 10, 2025, but not without dissent from Davis and Brisson, who aligned with Democrats in opposition. WRAL reports that Davis's resistance stems from concerns about eliminating the permit requirement, which he believes is crucial for preventing individuals with histories of domestic abuse, criminal activity, or mental health issues from carrying firearms.

However, Davis did not address the fact that numerous armed criminals have been apprehended in North Carolina despite the existing permit mandate.

State Senator Danny Britt, a Republican and defense attorney, sponsors SB 50 and brings firsthand experience to the debate. Britt remarked, I represented five clients with [charges of] possession of firearm by a felon last week. Its conceivable those people went out and got guns, even though we have a law that says they cant have them. Because they did. His comments highlight the reality that current laws have not deterred illegal gun possession.

The proposed constitutional carry legislation maintains penalties for illegal firearm possession and does not grant legal rights to those prohibited from carrying guns.

Currently, 29 states, including Texas, Florida, and Arizona, have embraced constitutional carry, underscoring a nationwide trend toward upholding Second Amendment rights. As the debate continues, the focus remains on balancing individual freedoms with public safety concerns.
