The New York Times, known for its liberal stance, initially reported on a terror attack in Colorado without mentioning that the suspect, Mohamed Soliman, is an illegal immigrant from Egypt.
Instead, the publication identified him merely as being "of Colorado Springs." This omission was highlighted by Omri Ceren on X, who pointed out the lack of information regarding Soliman's nationality and immigration status. Fox News's Bill Melugin had already reported these details by Sunday evening.
According to The Washington Free Beacon, the Times eventually updated its article with a statement from Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security. She confirmed that Soliman entered the United States on a tourist visa from Egypt in August 2022 and overstayed after it expired in February 2023.
Soliman has since filed for asylum under the Biden administration. The initial coverage by MSNBC also drew criticism for inaccurately describing Soliman as a "white male."
The attack, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, involved Soliman using Molotov cocktails and a "makeshift flamethrower" against demonstrators advocating for the release of hostages held by Hamas. Video footage from the scene captured Soliman shouting, "We have to end Zionists."
The assault resulted in injuries to eight individuals, ranging in age from 52 to 88, including a Holocaust survivor, as reported by local police and Boulder's 9News.
President Donald Trump has been proactive in addressing anti-Semitism, a problem that has intensified during Joe Biden's presidency. Trump has taken measures such as revoking visas of foreign nationals involved in anti-Semitic activities and withholding federal funds from universities that fail to address anti-Semitic protests.
Additionally, under the leadership of border czar Tom Homan, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 158,000 illegal immigrants, with approximately 75 percent having criminal convictions or pending charges, as per the Department of Homeland Security.
The incident in Colorado underscores the ongoing challenges of illegal immigration and media bias. The selective reporting by certain outlets raises questions about the transparency and accuracy of information being presented to the public.
