A Chicago-based Good Samaritan has slammed Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for downplaying the violence prevalent in the city.
This Good Samaritan stood up to save someone from the so-called Teen Takeover. This was a violent mob of primarily teenagers who engaged in violence and criminality.
Lenora Dennis was the individual identified as the Good Samaritan in this case, and she said: Im sorry, Lightfoot. I voted for you, but I cant be involved in any level of sugarcoating what I saw, while speaking with Fox News Garrett Tenney.
Dennis responded to Mayor Lightfoots assertion that the violence downtown was not mayhem.
The Mayor was speaking to a WGN9 reporter when she said:
The mass majority of the young people who came downtown came downtown because there was great weather and it was an opportunity to enjoy the city,
and
Thats absolutely, entirely appropriate.
Even Mayor Lightfoot said that a few people came out with bad intentions, but she hardly cared about her feelings about this situation.
However, Dennis stood up to protect two individuals being beaten and battered by the teenagers. She completely disagreed with the view of the Mayor that the incident was not violent or mostly peaceful.
Dennis said: I felt like if I did not intervene, that young man would have gotten killed right there, and It was just something that I had to do because I couldnt accept that.
Knutson, 20, and Garrison-Johnson, 22, spoke with Fox32 and said they were shopping at North Wabash Avenue when surrounded by a group of teenagers and other youngsters with bad intentions toward them.
DJ had my hand trying to lead me through the crowd of people, and they pushed him, they pushed me, and as soon as they pushed me, I told DJ, They just shoved me, Knutson said.
Knutson added: They said they were going to kill us. They turned around and started fighting. I got pushed down to the ground, and the whole group went to DJ, not me.
It was frightening for these two victims, who were glad they had someone to stand up and protect them in this scenario.
A cellphone video of the event obtained by CWB Chicago shows Knutson begging for someone to help her amid this incident. Fortunately, Dennis was able to go to her aid at that time. However, the outgoing mayor insists that this was not a violent event.
