Vice President JD Vance is currently leading the charge for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, as evidenced by a recent poll.
The survey, conducted by J.L. Partners in May, reveals that 46% of registered Republican voters are inclined to back Vance as the successor to President Donald Trump, placing him significantly ahead of other potential candidates.
According to Gateway Pundit, no other contender reached double digits in the poll. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who faced defeat in the 2024 race, secured a mere 8% support for a potential second bid. Entrepreneur and Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy followed closely with 7%, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Senator Ted Cruz each garnered 6%. Former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina governor Nikki Haley registered at 5%.
These findings indicate that Vance is solidifying his base among Republican voters as the party contemplates a future beyond Trump. In a recent interview, Trump appeared to dismiss the notion of a third term and suggested that Vance and Rubio could be strong candidates to follow in his footsteps.
Its far too early to say that, but I do have a vice president and typically would be and JDs doing a fantastic job, Trump remarked in an NBC interview. It could very well be. I dont want to get involved in that, he continued. I think hes a fantastic, brilliant guy. Trump also praised Rubio, stating, Marco is great. Theres a lot of them that are great. I also see tremendous unity.
A CPAC straw poll from February further underscored Vance's popularity, with him emerging as the clear favorite among conservative grassroots, securing 61% of the vote. Steve Bannon, former Trump campaign manager and War Room host, came in second with 12%, while DeSantis trailed in third with 7%.
