Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson have intensified their scrutiny of the controversial figures involved in the Mar-a-Lago raid.
This investigation follows the 2022 incident where President Trump's Florida estate was searched by the FBI, resulting in the seizure of numerous records. The operation, which involved over three dozen heavily armed agents, was followed by the appointment of a special counsel by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to probe the documents stored at Mar-a-Lago.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the raid was initiated after the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) visited Mar-a-Lago earlier in 2022, demanding documents from President Trump. Court documents have since revealed that the FBI, under the authorization of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, was permitted to use deadly force during the raid.
The FBI's actions have been criticized, particularly after agents released staged photographs of the so-called 'classified' documents scattered on the floor of Mar-a-Lago. In response, Senators Grassley and Johnson have called on NARA to disclose all communications with the Biden administration, FBI, and DOJ concerning the raid.
The Senate Judiciary Committee announced that "Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) are calling on the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to release all government records demonstrating the Biden administrations role in advancing investigations into then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. The senators are also opening an inquiry into NARA and its Inspector Generals role in those investigations."
In recent developments, Grassley and Johnson have unveiled new records that shed light on the extensive investigation by the FBI and DOJ, which laid the groundwork for Jack Smiths case against President Trump in Washington, D.C. The senators have previously exposed another questionable investigation orchestrated by the DOJ and FBI under the Biden administration. Documents released last month indicate that the FBI and DOJ have wielded their authority to target President Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, and their associates through an operation known as "Arctic Frost."
Launched in April 2022, "Operation Arctic Frost" was a taxpayer-funded initiative that involved seizing government-issued cell phones from Trump and Pence, alongside conducting numerous interviews nationwide. Although the FBI did not initially require a warrant to confiscate these devices from the Biden White House, agents later sought a search warrant to access the data, as reported by sources familiar with the investigation to Fox News.
The senators allege that anti-Trump FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault breached FBI protocols, specifically the "No Self-Approval Rule," to initiate the investigation. This probe eventually evolved into Special Counsel Jack Smiths legal case against President Trump, based on dubious claims, including allegations of "fraudulent" activities related to the 2020 election.
Whistleblower documents have further revealed the FBI's aggressive tactics, which included issuing over 50 subpoenas, secretly collecting records from more than 100 facilities and email accounts, and conducting a second wave of interviews across various states to build a case against Trump and his close associates.
The records also disclosed that prosecutors from the U.S. Attorneys Office in D.C., who collaborated with Jack Smiths team, coordinated with FBI agents to plan and execute "Arctic Frost." This revelation underscores the ongoing concerns about the potential misuse of power by federal agencies in politically charged investigations.
