Steve Doocy, the esteemed co-host of "Fox & Friends," was visibly emotional as he revealed a significant shift in his professional life.
The announcement came on Thursday, marking the end of his routine of waking up at 3:30 a.m. for 6,828 days to make his way to the Fox News studio in New York City.
"It is a great job, but the hours suck," Doocy candidly admitted. He further elaborated on his decision, stating, "After decades of getting up at 3:30 and driving into New York City in the dark, today is the last day I will host this show from the couch."
As reported by Western Journal, Doocy clarified that he is not retiring or leaving the show. He emphasized, "I am not retiring. Im not leaving the show. Im still a host, but its time for a change."
The veteran host shared that he and Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News Media and a long-time friend, have been contemplating his next steps. "Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News Media and a friend of mine for over 30 years, and I have been trying to figure out what a guy whos been getting up at 3:30 for two generations should do next. And Suzanne gave me a great option. To keep working on this show, just not every day," he revealed.
Doocy will now be working three days a week and will be based in Florida. He humorously added, "which means you may never see me in a necktie again." He also expressed his excitement about his new role, stating, "Ill be going from the Carolinas to the Keys. From Middle America to Mar-a-Lago. So, call me the coast-to-coast host."
The change in his schedule will also allow him to spend more time with his family. "When my kids were growing up, I never had breakfast with them. I was always here. Kathy did everything. But starting tomorrow, Im going to have breakfast with my grandkids and my children whenever I can," he said.
Doocy assured his viewers that they would still see him on the show. "I will continue to join the couch crew for commentary. You have trusted me for all these years and, dont worry, you will still hear my voice and my opinions loud and clear despite whatever seasonal pollen is killing me. And today I woke up, and its tree pollen," he said.
However, the transition is not without its downsides. Doocy expressed his sadness at leaving his colleagues at the Fox News studio. "There is one downside: I have a lot of friends in this skyscraper. Im gonna miss seeing them in person. The security guys, the caf crew, especially the hair and makeup team because they are geniuses at what they do. Exhibit A ladies and gentlemen," he said.
He also expressed his deep affection for the "Fox & Friends" team, stating, "And the closest to my heart, the Fox & Friends team working day and night producing Americas number one cable morning news show."
President Donald Trump also joined the show to congratulate Doocy on his new role. "Hi Steve, its your all-time favorite president, and I just want to congratulate you on your new and probably enhanced role. I just think youre a fantastic guy Youve always treated me fairly sometimes a little more fairly than other times, but thats OK," Trump said.
Trump further praised Doocy's contribution to the show, saying, "Youve been really stellar at what you do and at your craft, and youre going to continue. And its really been an honor to have spent so much time with you and watching you and the whole group in the morning. Its the number one show in the business, and its going to stay that way for a long time to come. And you were a big part of it. So thank you for all of your service, because truly, it was service," Trump said.
