Stephen Miller is reportedly a leading candidate to succeed Mike Waltz as President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor, as detailed in a report by Axios.
Miller, a prominent figure in Trump's inner circle and the founder of America First Legal, is being considered for the role following Waltz's appointment as the UN ambassador. This information comes from five sources familiar with the situation.
According to The Post Millennial, Miller has been instrumental in shaping the administration's immigration policies and currently serves as the deputy chief of staff in the Trump White House. His efforts have been particularly noted in the administration's stringent measures against illegal immigration. In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has assumed Waltz's duties as the national security advisor while President Trump deliberates on a permanent replacement.
A White House insider praised Miller's leadership, stating that he has made the Homeland Security Council operate "like clockwork" and described it as "infinitely more effective than the NSC [National Security Council] with a tiny fraction" of the previous staff. Another source highlighted Miller's collaborative relationship with Rubio on immigration matters, suggesting that his appointment as National Security Advisor "might be a perfect match."
The potential appointment of Miller is seen by some as an opportunity to redefine the role of the National Security Advisor. "Given how well he's worked with Marco, many see him as the perfect person to restore the role of the NSA to a staff-level policy role that reports to the chief of staff, instead of some inflated Cabinet position," a source remarked. Despite expressing interest in the position, Miller may hesitate if it detracts from his focus on immigration policy, as noted by a fifth source.
