She expressed her intent to prevent families from entering the criminal justice system due to administrative mistakes by raising the threshold for prosecuting welfare fraud. The bill is scheduled for a hearing on May 5, with the Legislative Counsels Digest noting that Los Angeles County field investigators manage between 15,000 to 20,000 fraud cases or referrals, as per the Department of Public Social Services.
