President Donald Trump has made a notable move in the 2026 Arizona gubernatorial race by endorsing both Republican contenders.
On Monday, he extended his support to Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), despite having previously endorsed his rival, Karrin Taylor Robson. This dual endorsement underscores Trump's influence and strategic approach within the Republican Party.
As reported by Mediaite, Trump expressed his admiration for Robson, stating, "I like Karrin Taylor Robson of Arizona a lot, and when she asked me to Endorse her, with nobody else running, I Endorsed her, and was happy to do so." However, the unexpected entry of Biggs into the race presented a unique challenge for Trump.
He addressed this by declaring, "When Andy Biggs decided to run for Governor, quite unexpectedly, I had a problem Two fantastic candidates, two terrific people, two wonderful champions, and it is therefore my Great Honor TO GIVE MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT TO BOTH." Trump concluded his statement with a rallying cry, "Either one will never let you down. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Trump's history of endorsing multiple candidates in the same race is well-documented. In the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial contest, he supported Kari Lake, who narrowly lost to Katie Hobbs. Meanwhile, former Vice President Mike Pence endorsed Robson, whom he lauded as a "warrior" and "the genuine article" amidst a political landscape he described as "full of charlatans & fakes."
The former President's pattern of dual endorsements extends beyond Arizona. In 2024, he backed both Abe Hamadeh and Blake Masters in Arizona's 8th Congressional District, with Hamadeh ultimately securing victory. Similarly, Trump endorsed candidates in Washington's 4th Congressional District, Missouri's attorney general race, and the state's gubernatorial contest, demonstrating his continued sway in shaping Republican primaries.
