The Democratic party, still grappling with the aftermath of their 2024 election cycle debacle, is yet to devise an effective counter-strategy to President Donald Trump's assertive agenda.
Consequently, they are resorting to the past, seeking a hero, or more accurately, a martyr.
The search is already underway.
At present, the progressive media's revered trio of the purportedly oppressed includes alleged murderers Luigi Mangione and Karmelo Anthony, along with alleged MS-13 gang member and human trafficker, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who is in the country illegally.
Firstly, there's Mangione, currently on trial for the murder of United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, a husband and father. His crime was allegedly a targeted hit against the insurance industry. Just last week, liberal internet personality Taylor Lorenz, formerly of The New York Times and Washington Post, lauded him as the type of "moral man" women admire, during a CNN interview.
Next is Anthony, a 17-year-old high school student accused of fatally stabbing a fellow teenager at a track meet. The left has been quick to play the race card, given the victim was White and the accused is Black. As a result, Anthony has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars online.
Lastly, there's the case of Kilmar Garcia. The Trump administration deported Garcia, but mistakenly sent him to a maximum security prison in El Salvador. He is now out of prison but remains in El Salvador following Maryland Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollens dramatic visit.
However, this potential poster boy for the alleged abuses of Trump's immigration policy is an alleged gang member, credibly accused of human trafficking, and his own wife had a restraining order against him. He is far from being the next Cesar Chavez.
Yet, it wouldn't be surprising if liberal white women started getting Garcia-style knuckle tattoos in solidarity. It could become the new pink hat.
According to Fox News, it might seem odd to many that Democrats would select this motley crew of miscreants as the faces of their rebranding. However, considering there are statues of George Floyd across the country, it seems their previous strategy worked.
The 2020 death of Floyd was undoubtedly tragic, but he was also a criminal with a lengthy record, under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest at the time. The case against Derek Chauvin and his fellow police officers, who were convicted, was never clear-cut, but the national response certainly was.
Our cities were set ablaze in the "mostly peaceful" riots following Floyds death. People lost their lives, a billion dollars of damage was incurred, but more importantly for Democrats, it helped them secure the White House for Joe Biden. A tragedy indeed.
As summer approaches, Democrats are eagerly anticipating protesters to once again flood our streets, this time for Mangione, Anthony, and Garcia. There's little reason to believe they will object if these protests escalate into riots.
However, this time, Democrats face several challenges as they attempt to recreate the 1960s protests. Firstly, Mangione, Anthony, and Garcia are alive, and most rational people believe all three are valid subjects of legal actions. It's difficult to be a martyr if you're not deceased.
Moreover, in 2020, protests over George Floyd's death were, bizarrely, the only legal means for Americans to assemble in many cities. With a straight face, people on TV claimed that racism, too, was a disease, akin to COVID.
Nevertheless, we have gradually seen protests gaining momentum. Initially, they were directed at Elon Musks role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, but now they have morphed into a broader charge of oligarchy, autocracy, and fascism.
Each of the lefts trio of new heroes symbolizes elements of this nebulous charge against the Trump administration: Mangione represents the failing healthcare system, Anthony the allegedly racist criminal justice system, and Garcia, an alleged anti-immigrant fervor.
As summer draws near, we will soon discover how effectively the Democrats manage to mobilize the masses on our streets, and whether their fiery rhetoric against all things Trump incites violence. But rest assured, the protests are imminent, and Mangione, Anthony, and Garcia, are likely to be their symbols.
