New York State's Democratic Attorney General, Letitia James, recently made a controversial interpretation of a biblical passage, asserting that she is under divine protection as she stands against President Donald Trump.
Speaking at a convention for the National Action Network, a group led by Al Sharpton, James described Trump as embodying "sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
In a dramatic display, James invoked religious imagery to illustrate her stance against the current administration. "Faith and fear can never share the same space, and so Im covered by the blood, she announced, gesturing towards the sky. "Im not afraid of Donald Trump. You can come after me, but no enemy nothing formed against me will perish, she continued, seemingly misquoting Isaiah 54:17, which states, "no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed."
According to the Western Journal, James' religious references appear out of place considering the policies she supports. Recently, President Trump instructed all federal agencies to ensure that hospitals receiving federal grants cease performing what he termed as "chemical and surgical mutilation of children." However, James responded by sending a letter to New York hospitals, warning them that they would be in violation of state law if they chose to comply with Trump's directive.
James' letter stated, Electing to refuse services to a class of individuals based on their protected status, such as withholding the availability of services from transgender individuals based on their gender identity or their diagnosis of gender dysphoria, while offering such services to cisgender individuals, is discrimination under New York law.
James, like many leading Democrats, is a staunch supporter of abortion rights. Last month, she celebrated a legal defeat for pro-life group Red Rose Rescue, who were charged for disrupting operations at abortion clinics. This is a monumental victory for the rule of law, for reproductive freedom, and for every patient who has been harassed, intimidated, or blocked from accessing the health care they need, she declared, even referring to abortion procedures as "essential medical services."
Critics argue that James' claim of being "covered by the blood" is more aptly applied to the unborn children of New York, and those affected by the procedures she insists New York hospitals continue. Her characterization of Trump as embodying "sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity" is seen by some as ironic, given her own defiance of what they believe to be divine law.
Those who hold this view argue that James is mistaken if she believes she has divine protection against any weapon formed against her. They suggest that such weapons are indeed being prepared for her, unless she repents and seeks the blood of Christ in sincerity and truth.
