A Republican member of the state House was expelled from the chamber on Wednesday after a bi-partisan vote to kick her out.
Fox News reports that the lawmaker was removed for inviting a conspiracy theorist to a committee hearing.
The Republican majority voted 46-13 to oust Rep. Liz Harris for violating House ethics rules by asking Jacqueline Breger. Breger made unfounded claims that Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs took bribes from a Mexican drug cartel. Breger also said that some crimes were overseen by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon Church).
A Democrat member of the State House sent in an ethics complaint about Harris in March and suggested that Harris had invited Berger only to disrepute and embarrassment of the House of Representatives and allowed the impugning of other members, which violates the ethics rules of the Arizona House.
The House Ethics Committee in Arizona comprises three Republicans and two Democrats. All five voted to say that Harris had violated House ethics rules, leading to a vote of the whole House. That vote was 46-13 in favor of removing Harris, and she was thus removed.
Harris left the chamber after her removal vote, followed by local reporters who had questions about her thoughts and feelings about what happened.
The expelled members said: I stand on honesty and integrity. The report is a lie, when asked for comment on the situation. She also noted that the vote was an example of how you need to toe the line.
Referring to the votes from fellow Republican members that voted for her ouster, she said: If you dont toe the line, this is what happens.
She angrily left the State House by saying: This is the peoples House,. According to Fox News, she got into her car and pulled away from the building.
