NYPD Reveals New High-Tech Security Tools, Including A $75k Robot Dog, To Keep Citizens Safe

In an exciting reveal, the NYPD has uncovered a $75,000 robot dog that it will use to work on curbing crime in the city.

The Post Millennial reports that the use of robodogs by the police force was first announced in April 2021. However, the city initially canceled the program after backlash from the public. That said, the program is back on, and the city is ready to move forward with the plan to unleash the robodogs as part of their efforts to move forward.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference on Thursday and said: digidog is out of the pound, digidog is now part of the toolkit we are using. He also responded to the previous cancelation of the program by a previous administration by noting that a few loud people were opposed to it and we took a step back, that is not how I operate. I operate on looking at what is best for the city.

NYPD Commissioner Keechan Sewell stated the following: the use of this technology will be transparent, consistent, and always done in collaboration with people who we serve, and added, to safeguard our modern city in a forward-looking world, it is essential that our officers are equipped with the tools, training, and technology necessary to do that job safely and effectively.

NBC 4 reports that the NYPD unveils three new technologies simultaneously. StarChase GPS, The Digidog, and the K5 Autonomous Security Robot (ASR).

BostonDynamics created the DigiDog, a robot dog that can assist officers when they are involved in what might otherwise be a dangerous situation for themselves. It is meant to help them get out of those situations safely and keep others in the area safe. Each one comes with a price tag of approximately $75,000.

The Post Millennial reports that the biggest fear for residents of New York is that they dont want to see their lives turned into an episode of Black Mirror. They dont want to see the updated technologies used by police become something that makes them feel unsafe within their cities. If that is the case, then they will not be pleased with the updates in technology.
