In a recent episode of her SiriusXM show, Megyn Kelly, the renowned broadcaster, identified several Democratic Party senators who she believes should be "targeted" in the forthcoming midterm elections.
This follows their refusal to vote on a bill aimed at preventing biological men from participating in women's sports.
According to the Daily Caller, the Democratic senators had thwarted Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville's Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act on Monday evening. This legislation sought to prohibit transgender athletes from competing in girls' and women's sports. Despite the fact that a majority of Americans supported the bill, the Democrats managed to defeat the legislation by voting 51 to 45 along party lines, thereby quashing a cloture vote on the bill.
During her show, Kelly expressed her belief that Democrats in traditionally blue states such as California and New York would not face repercussions for their "absurd vote." However, she urged billionaire Elon Musk to financially target Democrats in swing states during the midterm elections.
Kelly stated, "Here are the true villains, the ones who are in swing states who must be targeted. Im begging Elon to use some of his money, and hes 100% with me on this issue, 100% with me. I beg you to use some of your money to help defeat the following people. Arizona, both of them have to go Ruben Gallego, it should have been Kari Lake anyway, she would have voted the right way. Mark Kelly, who I liked and who I still have a personal affinity for. Im sorry, you need to go. If I could wave my magic wand, youre fired, sir, because you voted the wrong way."
Kelly continued her list, naming senators from Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. She criticized these senators for their lack of support for the bill, implying that their votes were detrimental to the protection of girls and women in sports.
In a bid to address the issue of women's sports and transgender ideology, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office. This order declared that the United States' policy would be to "recognize two sexes, male and female." Alongside this, Trump signed another executive order titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," which pledged to "protect opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports."
Kelly's call for action is in line with the conservative perspective that emphasizes traditional values and individual freedom. The push to pass the legislation would aid Republicans in enshrining Trumps executive order on womens sports, ultimately fulfilling his promise to American voters from his campaign.
A Harvard CAPS Harris Poll revealed that 69% of Americans surveyed support "banning men who have undergone operations and hormones to become women from girls' sports." This poll was conducted between February 19 and February 20. Of the majority of support, 50% were Democrats, 86% were Republicans and 70% were either independents or other, according to the data.
Kelly's appeal to Musk and her criticism of the Democratic senators reflect a broader conservative concern about the impact of transgender policies on women's sports. The midterm elections will be a crucial test of whether these concerns resonate with voters in swing states. The senators named by Kelly will undoubtedly be under scrutiny for their stance on this contentious issue.
