Elon Musk is set to participate in the inaugural cabinet meeting of President Donald Trumps second term, as announced by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a briefing on Tuesday.
This meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, marks Musk's debut as a "special government employee" leading the newly established Department of Government Efficiency.
According to the Daily Caller, the cabinet meeting will include the President, Vice President, presidentially appointed cabinet secretaries, and the White House chief of staff, as is customary. Over the past month, Musk and his team have been diligently examining various federal agencies to identify and eliminate unnecessary expenditures.
In a bold move on Saturday, Musk demanded that all federal employees account for their activities over the previous week or face termination. Subsequently, employees were given a second opportunity to comply with the Office of Personnel Management's productivity check-in email before any potential dismissals.
Presidential counselor Alina Habba addressed the media on Tuesday, questioning the reluctance of some to report their work activities. Look at all of you standing here asking me why people are upset to answer to their boss, the American people and the president of the United States, what youve done at work, she remarked. Since the issuance of the email request, Leavitt reported that one million federal employees have responded.
Musk took to X to reiterate the administration's stance, stating, Consistent with President @realDonaldTrumps instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.
However, resistance has emerged from certain agency leaders, such as Kash Patel of the FBI and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who advised their teams to disregard Musks directive.
Leavitt addressed these differing instructions, emphasizing the administration's respect for the decisions made by Cabinet secretaries. Everybody is working as one team, and the president respects the decisions of his Cabinet secretaries to tell their staff not to respond to that email because they did so out of interest of national security, and they obviously dont want to risk confidential information, she explained.
