In a recent turn of events, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly launched an inquiry into a covert operation against Donald Trump, dating back to 2015.
This development comes on the heels of Kash Patel's appointment as FBI Director and Dan Bongino's impending role as Deputy Director. The duo is expected to have their hands full, with Bongino's appointment already drawing media attention.
According to RedState, the investigation revolves around a clandestine "honey pot" operation, allegedly orchestrated by former FBI Director James Comey. A whistleblower, under the protection of the House Judiciary Committee, revealed that this operation was an "off-the-books" action, separate from the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
The whistleblower disclosed that two female FBI undercover employees had infiltrated Trumps 2016 campaign at high levels. They were reportedly directed to act as honeypots while traveling with Trump and his campaign staff. The Patel-led FBI is currently on the hunt for these two undercover operatives.
The whistleblower agent claimed to have personal knowledge that Comey ordered and directed the investigation into Trump. However, the investigation did not seem to target a specific crime but was more akin to a fishing expedition, aiming to uncover any incriminating evidence against Trump.
The undercover operation was allegedly kept hidden from Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz, who was investigating misconduct in the bureaus probe of the Trump campaign. The whistleblower stated, The case had no predicated foundation, so Comey personally directed the investigation without creating an official case file in Sentinel or any other FBI system.
This revelation raises a plethora of questions. The Times reported that a media outlet had a photograph of one of the women, but the FBI allegedly dissuaded them from publishing it, claiming the woman was an FBI informant whose life would be endangered if her identity was revealed. The operation was reportedly terminated following this incident.
The report further states that one of the undercover operatives is now employed at the CIA, while the other has been promoted to a "high-level FBI executive in a major field office." The whistleblower also claimed that FBI employees were warned against discussing this operation, which was perceived as a threat.
This investigation could potentially lead to increased accountability within the bureau. Given the current positions of the two undercover operatives, it is likely that they possess significant information about the operation. If it is indeed true that there was no valid reason for initiating the operation, particularly one involving a presidential campaign, it could pose serious problems.
Former FBI Director Comey, who is now under scrutiny, had previously expressed concern about Trump's potential victory in 2024. He had urged voters to support Biden before the latter withdrew from the race. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen what implications it will have on the individuals involved and the bureau at large.
