In a recent appearance on CNN's "The Lead," political activist Cornel West did not mince words when discussing former President Donald Trump.
West characterized Trump as a "gangster" who is allegedly waging a "war" against marginalized communities, including black and indigenous people.
According to Breitbart, West expressed his views candidly, stating, "I would just say to brother Trump, I know that youre a gangster. Gangsters dont want to be concerned about truth and justice. They are obsessed with the 11th Commandment, Thou shalt not get caught."
He further elaborated on what he perceives as a broader conflict, saying, "We are not just in conflict, my dear brother, but there is a war going on, brother Jake. Its a war against working people, against poor people. Its a war against black people and indigenous people. And we have to preserve the moral and the spiritual center of what we do against the gangsterization of the country."
During the conversation with host Jake Tapper, the topic shifted to Trump's stance on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. West attributed Trump's actions to a transactional and manipulative nature, asserting, "He just wants to do whatever he can do to keep his base alive and therefore hes going to promote a variety of different kind of programs that will keep them revved up."
West criticized Trump's focus on "scapegoating the most vulnerable immigrants, black people, precious Trans," rather than addressing issues related to "the most powerful who are his billionaire friends."
West's remarks underscore a broader critique of Trump's policies and approach, suggesting that they are designed to energize his base at the expense of marginalized communities. This perspective highlights ongoing debates about the impact of political strategies on social justice and equality.
