In a bold move, President Donald Trump has dismissed Ellen Weintraub from her role as Commissioner and Chair of the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC), effective immediately
Despite this directive, Weintraub is steadfastly refusing to vacate her position.
As reported by The Post Millennial, Weintraub took to social media to share an image of the letter she received from Trump. The letter read, "Dear Commissioner Weintraub, You are hereby removed as a Member of the Federal Election Commission effective immediately." In response, Weintraub expressed her defiance, stating, "Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner & Chair of FEC."
She further accused the president of acting unlawfully and reflected on her tenure, saying she had the opportunity to create some "good trouble" during her time at the FEC. "Theres a legal way to replace FEC commissionersthis isnt it. Ive been lucky to serve the American people & stir up some good trouble along the way. Thats not changing anytime soon," she asserted.
Weintraub's history of criticism towards Trump is well-documented. In 2019, she publicly denounced his unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud, labeling them as "damaging" to the democratic process during an appearance on CNN. She emphasized the lack of evidence supporting such allegations.
Since taking office on January 20, Trump has embarked on a mission to streamline the federal government, aiming to reduce its size and eliminate inefficiencies. This initiative has included offering buyouts to federal employees, dismantling DEI programs, and downsizing USAID. Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has signaled that these efforts will persist unabated.
