Amidst the sweeping changes proposed for flood zone management, Republican lawmakers are pushing for a significant reform of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This call for change is particularly strong among those who have recently faced natural disasters. "We need a FEMA that looks like somebody designed it on purpose, and thats not what we have right now," stated Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana. "Its a mess, and its very inefficient."
As reported by WND, Louisiana experienced its latest calamity in 2024 when Hurricane Francine, a Category 2 storm, struck approximately 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City. Senator Kennedy expressed his support for the president's efforts to enhance the delivery of disaster aid, emphasizing that it involves taxpayer money intended for those in need. "I welcome the presidents interest in trying to improve the process of delivering disaster aid, which is taxpayer money, to people who need it," Kennedy remarked.
Former President Donald Trump has previously indicated his intention to sign an executive order aimed at overhauling or potentially dismantling FEMA. He advocates for disaster relief to be managed at the state level, arguing that it would be more effective and efficient. Despite the rapid pace of these proposed changes, Trump maintains a 52 percent job approval rating, as found on Friday.
