In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump refuted claims that he is collaborating with Israel to launch an aggressive military campaign against Iran.
Trump emphasized his desire for Iran to thrive peacefully, provided it does not possess nuclear weapons. "I want Iran to be a great and successful Country, but one that cannot have a Nuclear Weapon," Trump declared on Truth Social. This statement followed his stark warning to Iran that it would face severe consequences if it attempted to assassinate him.
According to The New York Post, Trump dismissed reports of a joint U.S.-Israel plan to "blow Iran into smithereens" as "GREATLY EXAGGERATED." He expressed a preference for a "Verified Nuclear Peace Agreement," which he believes would allow Iran to "peacefully grow and prosper." Trump further suggested that negotiations should commence immediately, envisioning a "big Middle East Celebration" upon the agreement's completion. His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region and reflect his ongoing interest in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
In a separate development, Trump proposed a controversial plan for the Gaza Strip, suggesting that the United States assume control of the territory. During a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who supported the idea, Trump outlined his vision for the region. "The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too," he stated, detailing plans to clear unexploded ordnance, demolish damaged structures, and foster economic development to create jobs and housing.
Trump's proposal includes relocating the approximately 2 million residents of the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries, with no intention of allowing them to return. "Just cant go back. If you go back, its going to end up the same way it has for 100 years," he remarked, describing the Gaza Strip as a "hellhole" and expressing doubt that its inhabitants would wish to return.
While Trump did not specify a timeline for this ambitious plan, it emerges in the aftermath of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which included the release of hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The proposal raises significant questions about its feasibility and the potential impact on regional stability, as well as the humanitarian implications for displaced Palestinians.
