During the district swearing-in ceremony for the 119th Congress, Representative Jasmine Crockett made bold assertions regarding the current political climate, specifically targeting the Oval Office.
She remarked, "Yall, its getting real. Its been eight days. Eight days, yall, eight," emphasizing the brevity of her tenure thus far. Crockett continued, "And we were only in for three of them. Its been eight days. And honestly, I dont know how else to describe this, other than evil. Its evil that is literally sitting in the highest seat in the world." Her comments suggest a strong disapproval of President Donald Trump, hinting at a belief that his supporters align with white supremacist ideologies.
As reported by The Post Millennial, Crockett, now a member of the House Judiciary Committee, shared insights from her initial hearing on immigration. She addressed misconceptions, stating, "I know theres a lot of propaganda thats out there, but one of the things that I made clear is that its not immigrants that are committing all the crimes." She further elaborated on the issue of crime, cautioning against generalizations: "You can go out and find any random criminal of any race, I just want to be clear, but going out and finding one terrible situation and then taking a paintbrush and saying this applies to all of them is wrong."
Crockett's remarks took a pointed turn as she addressed the topic of extreme crimes in the United States. "Let me make sure yall got the facts, most extreme crimes that take place in this country are committed by white supremacists. 80 percent of extreme crimes are committed by white supremacists in this country," she asserted. She referenced the events of January 6, attributing the violence to groups such as the Oath Keepers, Neo-Nazis, and Proud Boys, labeling them as white supremacists. However, FBI data from 2019 reveals a more nuanced picture of crime demographics, with 51 percent of arrests for murder or nonnegligent manslaughter involving black suspects, and 47 percent involving white suspects.
In her address to fellow Democrats regarding the upcoming 2024 election, Crockett urged a pragmatic approach, acknowledging human imperfection. "We need to recognize that there is no such thing as perfection that is walking on this earth. And I think some of us got caught up and because we didnt have our perfect candidate. Some of us decided that we would stay home," she remarked. Her comments reflect a call for unity and participation, emphasizing the importance of engagement in the democratic process.
