Sources have revealed that Carlson will assume the position of deputy press secretary, marking a notable step in his career trajectory.
According to ABC News, Buckley Carlson has been a fixture on Capitol Hill since 2019, most recently holding the position of deputy chief of staff for Republican Representative Jim Banks. His journey with Banks began as a staff assistant, eventually leading to his appointment as communications director in 2021. This move to Vice President Vance's team comes as part of a broader reshuffling, where Vance has strategically appointed several former associates to key positions within his vice-presidential staff.
Among these appointments, Jacob Reses continues his role as chief of staff, while Brian Gray, who played a pivotal role in Vance's 2022 Senate campaign, has been named deputy chief of staff. Ben Moss transitions to the role of director of domestic policy, having previously served as Vance's general counsel during his Senate tenure. Andy Baker, with a background as a foreign officer, steps into the position of national security adviser.
The communications team sees Will Martin taking the helm as communication director, a role he previously held during Vance's Senate service. Luke Schroeder, who served as press secretary for Vance's Senate office, now assumes the role of deputy communications director. Both Martin and Schroeder were integral to Vance's presidential campaign efforts. Taylor Van Kirk, who has been a consistent presence in Vance's communications strategy, continues as press secretary.
Abby Delahoyde, maintaining her role as director of operations, brings experience from her previous work with Vance in the Senate and her tenure with Rep. Byron Donalds and former HUD Secretary Ben Carson. Additionally, Sean Cooksey, known for his leadership as the former chair of the Federal Election Commission, joins the vice-presidential staff as general counsel.
