Why Are Pence And Big Business Sweating Bullets Over RFK Jr. Confirmation?

In a bold move to restore the health of the nation, President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the position of Health and Human Services Secretary.

Trump has charged Kennedy with the task of dismantling the industrial food and pharmaceutical monopolies that have, in his words, "engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health." The President-elect's November announcement underscored the need for a renewed focus on protecting the public from harmful substances, including chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives, which he believes have contributed to the nation's health crisis.

As reported by The Blaze, Kennedy's nomination has not been without controversy. Former Vice President Mike Pence, whose 2024 presidential campaign was generously funded by industries potentially impacted by Kennedy's health campaign, has been vocal in his opposition. Pence's organization, Advancing American Freedom, which advocates for the rollback of corporate regulations, has been actively lobbying U.S. senators to block Kennedy's confirmation.

Kennedy's fluctuating stance on abortion has been a point of contention. The New York Times reported that Kennedy initially supported federal restrictions on abortion, but later suggested that women should have the right to terminate their pregnancies without government-imposed limits. In response to the backlash, Kennedy clarified his position, stating, "Abortion should be legal up until a certain number of weeks, and restricted thereafter," adding that a child's viability outside the womb should be the determining factor for the legality of abortion.

Despite these concerns, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley (R) revealed last month that Kennedy has committed to reinstating President Trump's pro-life policies at HHS. This includes reinstating the Mexico City policy and ending taxpayer funding for abortions domestically. "He supports reinstating the bar on Title X funds going to organizations that promote abortion," Hawley continued. "He pledged to reverse the Biden Admin's Section 1557 rule and also said all of his deputies at HHS would be prolife. He told me he believes there are far too many abortions in the US and that we cannot be the moral leader of the free world with abortion rates so high."

However, Pence's organization remains skeptical, stating in a letter, "While RFK Jr. has made certain overtures to pro-life leaders that he would be mindful of their concerns at HHS, there is little reason for confidence at this time." The group emphasized the need for an HHS Secretary with a firm commitment to protecting unborn children.

Pence himself has echoed these sentiments, urging Senate Republicans to "reject this nomination and give the American people a leader who will respect the sanctity of life as secretary of Health and Human Services."

Kennedy's proposed initiatives as HHS Secretary extend beyond the realm of abortion. He has pledged to protect American youth from the sex-change regime, reduce fluoride levels in drinking water, overhaul the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, ban harmful chemicals to "stop the mass poisoning of American children", and ensure that Americans have accurate information about vaccines. These proposed measures reflect Kennedy's commitment to a holistic approach to health, one that prioritizes the well-being of the American people over corporate interests.
