In a recent development, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum's confirmation hearing for the role of Interior Secretary, under the Trump administration, has been delayed.
The announcement was made by Senator Mike Lee on Monday, citing incomplete paperwork as the reason for the postponement.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) claimed that Governor Burgum was missing some necessary documents, leading to a two-day delay in the hearing. Senator Lee, however, stated that Burgum had "promptly" submitted the required paperwork, but the OGE's review was still pending. The Democrats on the Senate Energy Panel further complicated matters by calling for a delay of at least a week in Burgum's confirmation hearing.
In a statement, Senator Lee said, Governor Doug Burgum has been fully cooperative throughout the confirmation process, promptly submitting his paperwork to the Office of Government Ethics. Despite his compliance and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee noticing the hearing in accordance with all rules, OGE has yet to complete its review. This bureaucratic delay is unacceptable. He further added, To ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of this process, the committee will postpone Governor Burgums hearing until Thursday. However, we expect OGE to act with urgency and complete its review without further unnecessary delays.
In a similar vein, the confirmation hearing for Trumps Veterans Affairs Secretary nominee, Doug Collins, was also postponed. The delay was attributed to the FBI's slow progress in conducting its customary background check. Fox News Congress reporter Chad Pergram said on Monday, Congressman Doug Collins has submitted all his paperwork in a timely manner and has been transparent and forthcoming with the committee. At this time, the FBI has not completed its customary background check of Congressman Collins. In accordance with long-standing practice, the committee should have an opportunity to review Congressman Collins FBI file before the confirmation hearing. I expect the FBI to complete its review quickly so that the committee can move forward with its role of evaluating the Presidents nominee.
These delays follow last week's report that Senate Democrats allegedly sabotaged the confirmation of Tulsi Gabbard, President Trump's nominee for Director of National Intelligence, by claiming she had not provided sufficient "vetting materials." This series of events underscores the ongoing political tension and bureaucratic hurdles faced by President Trump's nominees.
