In the face of a devastating wildfire in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades, actor Steve Guttenberg, famed for his roles in the Police Academy series, Short Circuit, and Cocoon, was spotted assisting firefighters in clearing roads of deserted vehicles.
As reported by Breitbart News, a catastrophic wildfire erupted in the Pacific Palisades, fueled by a severe windstorm. Officials have compared this disaster to the 2011 windstorm, which inflicted millions of dollars in property damage, including widespread power outages and uprooted trees. The situation escalated to such an extent that residents, ordered to evacuate their homes, were seen leaving their cars in the middle of the road to flee the enormous fire. This left firefighters with the task of bulldozing these vehicles to clear a path.
Guttenberg, a resident of the affected neighborhood, stepped in to aid in clearing the way for emergency vehicles along Palisades Drive and Sunset Boulevard near Highland Village. In a conversation with KTLA 5s Gene Kang, Guttenberg appealed to those leaving their vehicles to also leave their keys behind, enabling individuals like himself to potentially move the cars and make way for incoming fire trucks.
He stated, Whats happening is people take their keys with them as if theyre in a parking lot. This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars. If you leave your car behind, leave the key in there so a guy like me can move your car so that these fire trucks can get up there. Its really, really important.
The actor, known for his role in Police Academy, revealed that some of his friends in the area were unable to evacuate due to the massive traffic jam on Palisades Drive. There are people stuck up there. So were trying to clear Palisades Drive and Im walking up there as far as I can moving cars, he said.
Guttenberg emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help. He ended his plea by encouraging his fellow residents to prioritize safety over material possessions. Dont worry about your personal property. Just get out. Get your loved ones and get out, he urged.
Guttenberg's actions and words serve as a reminder of the importance of community solidarity and the prioritization of human life over material possessions in times of crisis.
