Joe Tacopina, attorney to former President Trump, is brushing off the charges that our former President is facing.
He says theyre weak, and its a huge relief because they wont even make it to trial.
After the arraignment of the former President, Tacopina sat down with multiple outlets for rounds of interviews. When speaking with CBS Mornings, he said there was no crime. He said, I mean, this is not a game. Youre charging the former President of the United States with crimes, crimes that will never be sustained in a court of law because they dont exist.
According to the NY Post, Tacopina called the unsealed indictment very vanilla and complained that it did not list the underlying crimes hes allegedly intended to cover up with false business records.
While on the Today Show, Tacopina also points out that the alleged crimes are only misdemeanor crimes, and the statute of limitations has passed.
When answering questions about the DA saying they have new evidence, Tacopina quickly pointed out that there is no new evidence and that the indictment doesnt list Trumps crimes.
Trumps legal team remains confident that the case will meet various legal challenges before heading to trial, preventing it from ever going in front of a grand jury. They maintain that there is little or no new evidence.
Tacopina points out that even those politically opposed to Donald Trump are going to see this for what it is - the weaponization of the legal system. Its something that this country never did before [and] hopefully well never do again.
The lawyer repeatedly justified Trumps comments about the case, telling CBS, Its an opinion of someone who has the right to feel aggrieved.
Tacopina went on to say, If he was not Donald Trump, he would not be a defendant. No one else would have been prosecuted in this country for this crime - because its not a crime.
