In an intriguing revelation, insiders have shed light on the perspective of Melania Trump, the imminent First Lady, regarding her husband's burgeoning friendship with billionaire Elon Musk.
Despite the escalating frequency of Musk's visits to her Mar-A-Lago residence in West Palm Beach since the recent election, Melania remains unperturbed.
According to the Daily Mail, she perceives her husband's camaraderie with the tech mogul as a 'net positive.' An insider even anticipates that the incoming First Lady might explore potential avenues for collaboration with the Tesla founder. One source in Palm Beach, speaking to People, suggested that Melania might welcome the idea of having a 'babysitter' for her husband, adding that she adeptly navigates situations beyond her control. The source stated, "Melania has her own life and isn't bothered by political dealings her husband has with others. But so far, she has no issues with Musk."
Another insider revealed that Melania, aged 54, generally refrains from involving herself in her husband's political affairs. This detachment persists despite their Mar-a-Lago estate becoming a hub for prominent Republican politicians during and post the campaign, with Trump hosting multiple rallies there. The source added, "For the most part, she is not involved with subjects her husband is discussing with Musk or anyone else hanging around him. Right now, Trump has a lot of people wanting things from him. She is all too aware of that."
Speculation is rife that Melania might seek opportunities to work with Musk, given their relationship has been described as 'smooth up to this point.' During her previous tenure as First Lady, Melania spearheaded the Be Best campaign, advocating for measures to shield young Americans from cyberbullying. Since Musk acquired X, formerly Twitter, in October 2022, he could potentially offer valuable insights on regulating online behavior.
Following Trump's resounding victory on November 5, Musk has become a near-constant presence at Mar-a-Lago, even spending Thanksgiving at the estate. In December, rumors circulated that Musk was considering purchasing a $100m penthouse located a mere seven-minute drive from Trump's residence, a claim Musk has since refuted.
Musk is poised to assume a pivotal role in Trump's forthcoming administration. He is slated to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, or 'Doge' for short, alongside former Republican Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Despite its official-sounding title, Doge is not an official US government department. Instead, it will counsel Trump's White House on strategies to reduce expenditure and streamline the government.
