Taking America's Temperature: How Are American's Feeling About Trump (Even The Nay-Sayers)?

The majority of Americans are confident in President-elect Donald Trump's ability to effectively manage illegal immigration, stimulate the economy, reduce unemployment, and steer the United States clear of war, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The poll, conducted in December, revealed that a significant 68 percent of Americans trust Trump's capability to regulate illegal immigration.

Trump has made bold promises, including the execution of the "largest domestic deportation operation in American history." The pollsters noted on January 2, "Expectations are highest that Trump will control illegal immigration, which 68% of U.S. adults predict hell do." They further added, "Smaller majorities believe he will reduce unemployment, keep the country safe from terrorism, improve the economy, keep the country out of war, cut peoples taxes or reduce the crime rate."

As reported by Gateway Pundit, public confidence in Trump's ability to keep America out of wars has seen a significant increase since his first election in 2016. At that time, only 38 percent of respondents held this belief. Now, the figure stands at 55 percent. "Far more Americans now than in 2016 believe Trump will keep the nation out of war, rising 17 percentage points to 55%," stated Gallup. This shift in public opinion likely reflects Trump's assertions that the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas conflicts would not have occurred under his presidency, and his commitment to resolving them swiftly. Trump has also proudly claimed that he initiated "no new wars" during his first term.

The majority of respondents also expressed confidence that Trump will "increase respect for the United States abroad." However, the poll also revealed a lack of faith in Trump's ability to mend political divisions, improve the healthcare system, address race relations, or "improve conditions for minorities and the poor."

This skepticism regarding Trump's ability to enhance the quality of life for "poor people and minorities" seems to contradict the belief that he can reduce unemployment and boost the economy actions that would invariably benefit all Americans, including these demographics. The poll, which provides a snapshot of the public's expectations for Trump's upcoming term, was conducted from December 2 to 18.
