In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk, the billionaire co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency, has publicly questioned the integrity of Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), despite initially expressing his full support for the House Speaker.
This unexpected shift in Musk's stance came shortly after President Trump's endorsement of Johnson for reelection, amidst challenges from other GOP lawmakers.
According to Gateway Pundit, President Trump lauded Johnson as a "good, hardworking, religious man," and the ideal candidate to continue the America First agenda. In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised the Republican party's triumphant campaign in the 2024 Presidential Election, attributing their success to common sense and professionalism. He wrote:
We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024. ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS... ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, & PROFESSIONALISM."
Trump further criticized the Democrats for their expensive and unsuccessful campaign, accusing them of misusing funds to buy endorsements. He concluded his post by expressing his complete endorsement for Mike Johnson, stating, "The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!
In response, Johnson expressed his gratitude and pledged to swiftly implement the policies that have come to define Trumps MAGA movement. He said, Thank you, President Trump! Im honored and humbled by your support, as always. Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America. The American people demand and deserve that we waste no time. Lets get to work!
Initially, Musk seemed to be in agreement with Trump, commenting under Johnsons post, I feel the same way! You have my full support. However, Musk's stance took a sudden turn when he echoed concerns raised by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who criticized Johnson for compromising conservative principles.
Massie accused Johnson of collaborating with Democrats on policies such as funding Ukraine, authorizing surveillance on Americans, and enabling reckless spending. He also expressed his disappointment with Trump's endorsement of Johnson, comparing it to Trumps past endorsement of former Speaker Paul Ryan. Massie wrote, I respect and support President Trump, but his endorsement of Mike Johnson is going to work out about as well as his endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan. Weve seen Johnson partner with the democrats to send money to Ukraine, authorize spying on Americans, and blow the budget.
In response to Massie's criticism, Musk, instead of reinforcing his initial support, responded: You might be right, but lets see how it goes.
