In a recent poll conducted at AmericaFest, a gathering of politically active Republicans and conservatives, the majority of participants expressed that President-elect Donald Trump's primary focus upon assuming office should be addressing illegal immigration and implementing deportations.
The event, orchestrated by political commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, attracts individuals who are deeply engaged in politics and are willing to pay a premium to hear from figures such as Trump, Tucker Carlson, and even comedian Rob Schneider.
According to The Blaze, Kirk shared the poll results on his X page, which demonstrated a strong endorsement of Trump's policies and Cabinet selections. "71% of respondents STRONGLY support primary challenges to Republican lawmakers who vote against ANY of President Trump's Cabinet choices," Kirk stated, accompanied by a graphic. He further noted that "Only 14% oppose primary challenges."
When it came to Trump's Cabinet nominations, the poll participants were most enthusiastic about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the role of health and human services director, closely followed by FBI director nominee Kash Patel. These two nominees were the top picks, with RFK and Patel garnering 35% and 31% of the votes, respectively. Other names that surfaced from the respondents included former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Fox News host Pete Hegseth.
Regarding Trump's policy priorities, the attendees overwhelmingly voted that the President-elect's foremost concern upon taking office should be "illegal immigration/border security/deportations." Kirk added, "A massive 63% majority said that Trump's #1 issue on day one should be securing the border and deporting illegal immigrants who are already here." Other policy areas that were deemed significant included pardoning those arrested for their involvement in the January 6 events and addressing the national debt.
The poll also revealed a significant dissatisfaction with Mike Johnson's performance as Speaker of the House. A substantial 62% of those polled disapproved of Johnson's performance, with 58.8% responding negatively to the question "Do you think Mike Johnson should remain Speaker of the U.S. House?" Kirk pointed out that a mere 22% approved of Johnson's performance.
Looking ahead to the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, JD Vance emerged as the clear favorite with 59% of the votes, followed by Donald Trump Jr. with 17%. When asked about their political adversaries, 35% of the attendees predicted that California Governor Gavin Newsom would be the Democratic Party's 2028 presidential nominee, while 17% speculated it might be Vice President Kamala Harris.
Lastly, the poll revealed a strong sentiment among the respondents towards Anthony Fauci, with over 90% expressing support for indicting him for his alleged role in "illegally funding the creation of Covid-19 in a Chinese lab." This reflects the deep-seated concerns and skepticism among conservatives regarding the origins and handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
