In a surprising turn of events, President Biden has issued a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, a move that directly contradicts the numerous public assurances given by his Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre.
This decision has raised eyebrows, considering Jean-Pierre's repeated insistence that the President would not be pardoning his son.
As reported by the Daily Caller, Jean-Pierre had, on at least four occasions since the collapse of Hunter Biden's plea deal for gun charges in July 2023, stated unequivocally that President Biden would not be pardoning his son. In response to queries about a possible pardon, Jean-Pierre had stated, "No." She had reiterated this stance emphatically, stating, "Its still a no. Its still a no. It will be a no. It is a no. And I dont have anything else to add. Will he pardon his son? No."
Despite these assurances, President Biden has indeed pardoned Hunter, granting him a sweeping reprieve for all alleged crimes committed between 2014 and December 2024. This move has rendered Jean-Pierre's previous statements false, a pattern that has become all too familiar since she took over from former Press Secretary Jen Psaki in 2022.
Jean-Pierre has been known to disseminate misinformation, particularly regarding President Biden's mental state. After a disastrous debate performance by the President, Jean-Pierre assured reporters and the American public that Biden would not be withdrawing from the presidential race. "The President is clear-eyed and he is staying in the race. I dont have anything else beyond that," she stated during a July 3 press briefing. However, Biden did eventually withdraw from the race, contradicting Jean-Pierre's assertions.
Jean-Pierre's misleading statements about Biden's mental state have not gone unnoticed. In July, she informed reporters that a January meeting between Biden's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, and neurological specialist Dr. Kevin Cannard was unrelated to the President's care. This claim was challenged by the Associated Press's Seung Min Kim, who tweeted, "On Tuesday, Press Sec [Jean-Pierre] said a WH meeting between Bidens doctor and a neurologist was not related to Bidens care. That was not true."
Jean-Pierre later admitted that Biden had received a neurological exam during the meeting, contradicting her previous claims that Biden had only seen a neurologist during his annual checkup in February. This admission raised further questions about the veracity of her claims regarding Biden's mental state.
Jean-Pierre's credibility has also been called into question over her statements about abortion. In 2022, she referred to Republican South Carolina Rep. Lindsey Grahams 15-week abortion ban proposal as a national ban on abortion. However, the bill included clear exceptions for rape, incest, and the life and health of the mother, and allowed abortions up to 15 weeks. Despite this, Jean-Pierre repeated the false claim on ABCs The View.
Jean-Pierre's distortion of reality extends to her insistence that there was no evidence of Hunter Bidens alleged crimes that could lead to an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. She also claimed in December 2023 that a record number of migrant border crossings were not unusual.
The recent pardon of Hunter Biden by his father, President Biden, has once again highlighted the discrepancies between Jean-Pierre's public assurances and the actions of the President. This pattern of misinformation raises serious questions about the credibility of the information disseminated by the White House and the transparency of the current administration.
