Kink or Crime? Inside The Controversial World Of "Adult Baby And Adult Diaper Lover" Communities

The Adult Baby and Diaper Lover (AB/DL) communities are asking people to stop assuming they have a sexual attraction to children.

As reported by The Stranger, there are a number of reasons people may engage in AB/DL, including relaxation, comfort, or stress relief. A study conducted by Kevin J. Hsu and J. Michael Bailey revealed that out of 200 AB/DL men surveyed, less than five percent had an attraction to minors, which is similar to the rates of pedophilia in the general population.

Seattle resident "Smook" explained that this is his way of "reclaiming his childhood." Sue McGarvie, a "kink-aware" sex therapist who regularly sees AB/DL clients, shared that it's easy to tell which AB/DL members are offenders. "The offenders, you can tell very quickly. Theyll be in your office for 15 minutes and theyll be blaming everybody else. The victims tend to blame themselves," she said.

AB/DL behavior has become a recognized "kink" category. In 2022, an "Age Play" convention in Chicago attracted 1,000 people and Smook noted that his local chat group in Seattle has grown to more than 300 members. The Stranger reported that some areas are creating "safe spaces" for AB/DL members, while others are taking steps to shut them down due to their violation of local morality.
