In a recent announcement, Stephen Miller, the incoming deputy chief of staff for policy for President-elect Donald Trump, stated that Trump plans to mandate federal employees to resume in-office work.
This decision comes in the wake of a report from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, which disclosed that a mere 6% of federal workers are currently operating in-office full-time.
According to One America News, Miller declared, When Donald Trump is inaugurated on Jan. 20 and that new golden age of America begins, hes going to tell the federal workers of this country who your viewers pay for to get back into the office and do their jobs or find another line of work. This statement underscores the incoming administration's commitment to efficiency and accountability in the public sector.
The report that spurred this decision was presented during the inaugural DOGE Caucus, a body appointed by Trump and headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. The report, authored by Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), unveiled the extent to which federal employees have been avoiding in-person work. It highlighted that only 6% of federal government employees report in person on a full-time basis, while a third of federal employees are working entirely remote.
Elon Musk further emphasized the gravity of the situation, suggesting that the percentage of federal workers physically present in the office daily is closer to 1%, once security and maintenance workers are excluded.
Miller expressed his disapproval, stating, Its so emblemical of the contempt that so many people in the swamp have for the people who pay their salaries. He added, We are not paying billions and billions of dollars for people to sit at home all day as federal workers, streaming their favorite shows on Netflix, lounging around in bubble baths and doing God knows what else, but definitely not working for the American people.
Miller's reference to bubble baths was a pointed critique of a Veterans Affairs worker who gained online notoriety after posting a picture of himself in a bathtub with the caption, My office for the next hr. Miller responded, Grown men should not be taking bubble baths. They should not be doing their work from home in a bubble bath.
Miller further emphasized the administration's stance, stating, Whats really going to happen here is again, youre either gonna go back to work, or youre not going to work because we are not going to waste American taxpayer dollars and were going to make sure these departments are performing the essential functions that the American people pay for.
The newly established Department of Government Efficiency will work in tandem with Trump allies to curtail the size and scope of government, identifying inefficiencies and wasteful spending. This move aligns with the conservative principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility, underscoring the incoming administration's commitment to these values.
