In a shocking revelation, a former employee of a pediatric transgender center has raised the alarm on the disturbing practices taking place behind the scenes.
Jamie Reed, the executive director of the LGBT Courage Coalition, spent four years at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Childrens Hospital. The practices she witnessed during her tenure are nothing short of alarming.
According to The Blaze, Reed's revelations include her concerns about the use of puberty blockers. She shared her insights with Allie Beth Stuckey of Relatable, stating, Puberty, in my opinion now, is a human right. The body requires these steps, and the brain requires the pruning and the slowness of how puberty engages. She further expressed her concern about the increasing number of young people requesting to remain in a prepubertal state indefinitely. The damage to the body is just immense, she added.
Stuckey, in her response, highlighted the importance of puberty for intellectual maturation and understanding consequences. She expressed her concern about the seemingly "nefarious motivation" behind the push to prolong adolescence. What kind of people would want to prolong basically eternal adolescence in young people and prevent them from being able to make wise choices and to keep their body in a state of prepubescent development? Thats very disturbing to me, she said.
Reed also pointed out the concerning shift in decision-making power within the center. She explained that the endocrinologists and mental health providers were not making the decisions. Instead, the children were being given the authority to decide their gender identity. They would basically say if the child says theyre trans, then theyre trans, Reed said.
Reed admitted that it took her a while to realize the harm that "gender-affirming care" was causing to the children. It took me a long time to get to the position where I knew what I was doing was wrong, she confessed. We were harming these children. I mean, we started to see true medical harms.
One of the most harrowing incidents Reed recalled involved a patient who had been put on testosterone at a young age. The patient's first sexual experience resulted in severe injury, leading to emergency surgery. When Reed raised this as an adverse outcome, the response was dismissive. They knew these treatments were so harmful that they didnt even see it outside of what the expectation was, Reed said.
These revelations underscore the need for a more cautious approach to gender-affirming care, particularly for children. The potential for harm, both physical and psychological, is immense. As Reed's testimony shows, the consequences of such practices can be devastating. It is crucial to ensure that the rights and well-being of children are prioritized over ideological agendas. The conservative perspective, which values traditional norms and individual freedom, calls for a more measured and responsible approach to such sensitive issues.
