In a move that some may see as a reflection of the Hunter Biden pardon, a Democratic House staffer was arrested on Monday, seemingly under the impression that American laws were not applicable to him.
Michael Hopkins, a 38-year-old employee of Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), was apprehended for allegedly attempting to smuggle ammunition into the Cannon House Office Building, as reported by Fox News. According to Capitol police, the ammunition was detected on the x-ray screen.
As stated by the Gateway Pundit, Capitol police discovered four ammunition magazines and eleven rounds in Hopkins' bag. Hopkins defended himself by claiming he had "forgotten" about the items in his bag. The Capitol Police provided Fox News with a statement, saying, "At approximately 8:45 a.m., a House staffer entered the Cannon House Office Building and put his bag through screening. USCP officers noticed what appeared to be ammunition on the X-ray screen. After a hand search of the bag, officers found four ammunition magazines and eleven rounds of ammunition. The staffer told the officers that he forgot the ammunition was in the bag."
Rep. Morelle's office responded to the incident with a statement, assuring the public of their commitment to a "safe and secure workplace for all" and that they were seeking more information about the incident. Hopkins now faces charges of unlawful possession of ammunition, including one charge for possession of a high-capacity magazine. There has been no indication as to whether President Joe Biden is considering a pardon for Hopkins.
This incident raises questions about the perceived double standards among Democrats, particularly concerning firearm laws, at a time when they are pushing for restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of ordinary Americans. Hopkins, who has made several appearances on FOX 5 DC over the years, providing analysis on GOP primary debates and the Trump impeachment trials, now finds himself in the spotlight for a different reason.
