In a recent article published by Politico, the suggestion was made that President Joe Biden should consider commuting the sentence of his son, Hunter Biden.
The argument was put forth by senior writer Ankush Khardori, who believes that such a move would be a significant act of mercy, particularly as Biden's term in office draws to a close.
According to The Post Millennial, Khardori wrote, Thanks to President Joe Bidens Justice Department, Donald Trump is headed to the White House, and his son Hunter might be headed to prison. And believe it or not, the drama will intensify shortly. He further detailed the upcoming legal proceedings involving Hunter Biden, who is set to be sentenced in two separate criminal courts for charges related to gun possession and tax fraud.
The question of whether Biden will pardon his son has been a topic of speculation and debate. Khardori noted that this question brings up a myriad of considerations, including legal, political, practical, and historical aspects that are difficult to reconcile. However, he argued that Biden is on strong ground at a minimum to commute any sentence of imprisonment for his son Hunter before he leaves office. Not a pardon exactly, but an important show of mercy.
Khardori's argument is based on the belief that commuting Hunter's sentence would spare him potential years of imprisonment and alleviate further distress for the Biden family. However, this suggestion contradicts previous statements made by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. On Sept. 5, 2024, Jean-Pierre, representing Biden, stated that the president would neither pardon Hunter nor commute his sentence.
When asked if a change in Hunter's plea to guilty would influence the president's stance on the case, Jean-Pierre responded with a firm no comment. She reiterated that Biden would not issue a pardon for his son, and when asked about the possibility of a commutation, she stated, That's also no.
Despite Biden's previous refusal to pardon or commute his son's sentence, Politico suggested that he might have valid reasons to reconsider his decision. Khardori wrote that the cases against Hunter Biden probably would not have been brought against anyone else, but clarified that he was not attempting to excuse any of Hunter Bidens conduct. He argued that the prosecution of Hunter Biden was a result of pressure from Trump and his Republican allies on Bidens Justice Department.
The conservative perspective on this issue underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions, regardless of their political or familial connections. The suggestion that Biden should commute his son's sentence could be seen as an attempt to circumvent the legal process, which is contrary to conservative values of limited government intervention and individual responsibility.
The unfolding drama surrounding Hunter Biden's legal troubles and the speculation about potential presidential intervention serves as a reminder of the complex interplay between politics, law, and family ties. As the situation continues to evolve, the conservative viewpoint emphasizes the need for transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.
