Vivek And Elon Lay Out What's FIRST On The DOGE Chopping Block...Drum Roll Please!

The United States' largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, may soon face a significant reduction in federal funding.

This potential cutback is part of a broader plan proposed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who are at the helm of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In a joint opinion piece published in the Wall Street Journal, Musk and Ramaswamy outlined their intentions to curb federal overspending and restore power to the elected officials, as reported by Breitbart. They expressed their intention to cut millions in funding allocated to "progressive groups like Planned Parenthood."

The duo acknowledged the skepticism surrounding the extent of federal spending DOGE can control through executive action alone. They referenced the 1974 Impoundment Control Act, which prevents the president from halting expenditures authorized by Congress. "Mr. Trump has previously suggested this statute is unconstitutional, and we believe the current Supreme Court would likely side with him on this question," they wrote.

Despite this, Musk and Ramaswamy are confident that DOGE can help curb federal overspending by targeting the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or misused. They cited examples such as the $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations, and nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.

Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, responded to the op-ed, labeling Musk and Ramaswamy as "unqualified fanboys and agents of chaos." She asserted that Planned Parenthood has weathered similar attacks in the past and continues to serve millions of patients nationwide.

The op-ed coincided with President Joe Biden awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. Richards, during her tenure from 2006 to 2018, oversaw an estimated nearly 4 million abortions.

President-elect Donald Trump, who announced Musk and Ramaswamy's appointment to DOGE, stated that "Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of DOGE for a very long time." He expressed his belief that the pair would help his administration dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excess regulations, and reduce wasteful expenditures.

Planned Parenthood's 2023 annual report revealed that taxpayer funding, including government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements, reached $699.3 million, accounting for 34 percent of the organization's overall revenue. The pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute noted a 43 percent increase in Planned Parenthood's taxpayer funding since 2010.

The report also showed a 5-percent increase in abortions performed by Planned Parenthood in 2021-2022, compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, total services were down by 17 percent. The institute's analysis revealed that "abortions made up 97.1 percent of Planned Parenthoods pregnancy resolution services, while prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 1.6 percent (6,316), 0.9 percent (3,604), and 0.4 percent (1,721), respectively."

The American Life Leagues STOPP International 2023 Report on Planned Parenthood CEO Compensation revealed a 26.3-percent increase in total compensation paid to all Planned Parenthood affiliate CEOs from $13.3 million in 2015 to $16.8 million in 2020. The average compensation for a Planned Parenthood CEO rose by 33.4 percent in five years, from $237,999 in 2015 to $317,564 in 2020.

The potential funding cut to Planned Parenthood is a clear indication of the conservative push for limited government spending and a return to traditional values. It also underscores the ongoing debate about the role of government in funding organizations that many conservatives believe undermine these values. The outcome of this initiative will undoubtedly have significant implications for the future of Planned Parenthood and similar organizations.
