In a revealing turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris's most significant misstep during her three-month campaign against Donald Trump has been unveiled.
A national survey conducted by DailyMail.com and J.L. Partners disclosed that voters believe Harris should have distanced herself from President Joe Biden earlier. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 likely voters, identified Harris's refusal to deviate from the Biden administration's policies as her most glaring error.
Last month, when asked on The View about potential changes she would implement in Biden's presidency, Harris responded, "There is not a thing that comes to mind." She further defended the president's record, stating, "I've been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact." According to the DailyMail.com poll, this response could be detrimental to her election prospects.
The same survey revealed that Trump is maintaining a three-point lead over Harris, standing at 49 percent compared to Harris's 46 percent. With only a few days remaining in the campaign, Trump is poised to become the first GOP candidate to secure the popular vote since George W. Bush in 2004.
When Fox News' Bret Baier later questioned Harris about what she would have done differently from Biden, she avoided a direct answer. Instead, she emphasized her representation of a "new generation of leadership." She clarified, "My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Bidens presidency. Like every new president that comes into office, I will bring my life experiences, my professional experiences, and fresh and new ideas. I represent a new generation of leadership."
The poll respondents also pointed out other missteps by Harris, including her choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate and her failure to secure a performance by Taylor Swift at the Democratic National Convention. One respondent expressed regret over Harris's statement that Trump would "invoke Hitler." Last week, in an effort to distinguish her vision for America from that of the former president, Harris labeled Trump a "fascist."
The poll also revealed concerns about Harris's delayed specifics on economic improvement strategies and her record on border issues, particularly among Independent voters. The DNC attendees were notably disappointed when rumors of Swift and Beyonce headlining the event's final night in Chicago proved false.
The survey also examined Trump's most significant campaign trail mistake. Respondents identified his comments about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, as the most shocking. His tendency to speak without restraint was also seen as a deterrent for undecided voters.
After Biden's surprising withdrawal from the race, Harris experienced a surge in poll numbers and fundraising, raising $1 billion in just three months. However, the race has since become one of the closest in history, with polling averages showing Trump and Harris within 0.5 of a point of each other nationally.
Both candidates are focusing their efforts on the seven crucial swing states that will determine the election's outcome on November 5. Trump delivered his closing message to voters at New York City's iconic Madison Square Garden, an event overshadowed by a comedian's derogatory remarks about Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, Harris made her final appeal to voters in Washington, D.C., at the Ellipse in front of the White House. However, her event was upstaged by Biden, who reportedly referred to Trump supporters as "garbage" during a simultaneous fundraising zoom.
