The once highly anticipated annual Victoria's Secret fashion show, renowned for its stunning models, elaborate costumes, celebrity performances, and high-profile guest list, has undergone a significant transformation in recent years.
The show, which once attracted millions of global viewers, has been significantly impacted by the rise of 'wokeness.'
In 2018, the lingerie giant made a notable shift away from the overt sexiness that had long characterized its brand. Instead, it embraced a more artistic approach, aligning itself with the #metoo movement. As reported by The Blaze, this shift continued into 2021 when Victoria's Secret replaced its iconic "angels" with a diverse group of models and influencers, signaling its commitment to inclusivity.
The fashion show was replaced last year with a somewhat peculiar pseudo-documentary. It featured little of the traditional femininity associated with the brand, but instead showcased a diverse range of participants, including a Nigerian artist who recited poetry.
The latest development in this trend of transformation came this year, with the inclusion of two transgender models in the fashion show, which recently returned after a six-year hiatus. "Transgender models make history at Victoria's Secret fashion show," Stu Burguiere, a commentator, read from an Entertainment headline, before expressing his disbelief, "Are you kidding me? Is this real?"
Indeed, it is. Valentina Sampaio and Alex Consani, two biological males who identify as women, walked the runway in full lingerie. Burguiere, while displaying pictures of the two models, admitted his apprehension to examine them too closely due to concerns about "whatever might be going on down there."
Burguiere's final thoughts on the matter were that Victoria's Secret should remember that "secrets are important, and sometimes you should keep them." He suggested, "Maybe keep the secrets and don't put them on television."
