President Biden recently stirred up a wave of confusion during a speech at the Gila River Indian community, where he seemingly referred to former Representative Gabrielle Giffords, D-AZ, in the past tense.
"Thank you to Senator Mark Kelly, a great friend who also was married to an incredible woman [Giffords] who was my friend," he said, despite the fact that Giffords, a survivor of the 2011 Tucson mass shooting, is still alive and married to Senator Kelly.
According to Fox News, Biden's speech at the Indian Reserve was not without its peculiarities. "I'm Joe Biden, I'm Jill Biden's husband. And God, thank you for the introduction to the Gila Indian River community here the Gila nothing wrong with me. The Gila River Indian community for welcoming me today," he said. The President also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit the community, stating, "It's an honor, a genuine honor, to be in this special place on this special day."
However, this is not the first time Biden's verbal blunders have raised eyebrows. In February 2024, he claimed to have spoken with the late German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who had passed away four years prior. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the President's gaffe, stating, "As it relates to the names and what he was trying to say, many people, elected officials, many people, you know, they can misspeak sometimes, right?"
Jean-Pierre further argued that such slip-ups are common and urged the public not to lose sight of the President's overarching message about American leadership on the global stage. Fox News Digital has sought a comment from the White House regarding the President's recent remarks.
