The family of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five who was tragically murdered, has expressed their gratitude to former President Bill Clinton for his candid admission that enhanced border security could have prevented the death of another young woman who was killed under similar circumstances.
According to The New York Post, Patty Morin, the mother of the victim, issued a statement in which she praised Clinton for his honesty about the shortcomings of the Biden-Harris administration's border policies. "President Clinton acknowledged the failed border policies of the Biden-Harris administration that has cost America so much," she said. "Had the border been secured and proper vetting done, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and so many other Americans would be alive today. I commend President Clinton for telling the truth about the Biden-Harris border failures."
While campaigning in Georgia for Vice President Kamala Harris, Clinton criticized former President Donald Trump's opposition to a bipartisan border bill that ultimately failed. He then acknowledged that thorough vetting could have saved the life of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student. Riley was brutally raped and murdered, allegedly by a Venezuelan man with familial connections to the violent Tren de Aragua prison gang.
Clinton questioned Trump's decision to kill the bill, which was being drafted by senior Republicans in the Senate. "You had a case in Georgia not very long ago, didnt you? They made an ad about it. A young woman who had been killed by an immigrant. Yeah, well, if theyd all been properly vetted that probably wouldnt have happened. But if theyre all properly vetted, that doesnt happen," he stated.
Harris, who was appointed as the "border czar" to address the border crisis under President Biden, has faced widespread criticism for a significant increase in migrants during the first three years of the Biden-Harris administration. This surge has been blamed by some police departments for a rise in migrant crime. Harris's office has yet to respond to these allegations.
Despite these criticisms, Customs and Border Patrol maintains that migrants attempting to cross the border illegally are thoroughly vetted and screened. However, this claim is contradicted by the fact that Riley's suspected killer, 26-year-old Jose Ibarra, was granted entry into the country after crossing near El Paso, Texas, long before the bipartisan border bill was abandoned.
Rachel Morin's suspected murderer is also an illegal immigrant, hailing from El Salvador, as confirmed by authorities. Patty Morin has made two trips to Capitol Hill to urge Congress to implement stricter vetting procedures at the border.
The suspect, 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, was already on Interpol's radar in connection with another woman's murder. He is also accused of raping a woman and her 9-year-old child in California before moving to Maryland, where Morin's battered remains were discovered in a culvert. Despite being turned away three times by border authorities, Martinez-Hernandez managed to enter the U.S. on his fourth attempt, as revealed by the Morin family attorney, Randolph Rice.
Rice highlighted the failure of the authorities to take into account Martinez-Hernandez's known violent criminal history in his home country. He echoed the sentiments of the Morin family and President Clinton in criticizing the Biden-Harris administration's inability to enforce immigration laws and protect American families. "While the administration continues to turn a blind eye to the dangers posed by improperly vetted individuals crossing the border, President Clintons remarks recognize the reality that the current policies are failing the American people," Rice stated.
